Pyramid Display acquires Sydney Beaumont

Pyramid Display employs 95 staff across its premises in Manchester, Gateshead and Birmingham and expects to have a turnover of around £30m this year. The company specialises in large signage and displays for the retail sector. Sydney Beaumont was founded in 1966 and has three staff and an annual turnover of around £750,000. The company will continue to operate out of its Leeds showroom and trade under the same name. Pyramid Display head of sales and marketing Neil McCarthy said: “It was a good opportunity to get involved in a slightly more diverse business. We’ve been looking for a while at how to move into smaller sign-making. Beaumont specialises in a few niche areas we’re not particularly strong in, so it is a good fit.” Sydney Beaumont will now sell Pyramid Display’s flat-sheet materials alongside its regular range of roll materials. Pyramid Display is targeting growth for both companies. “We’ve been going just over 10 years and we regularly grow 16%-17% year-on-year. “We’re always looking to develop the business, and we’re in a nice position as we’re doing well at the moment. If other acquisition opportunities come along in the future, we’re always looking out for those,” added McCarthy....

Ibis high-speed binder targets high-end digital work

The High Wycombe company will show off its UK-manufactured Smart-binder Plus HS (high speed) system at Print 13 in Chicago from 8 to 12 September. The kit will run in connection with an MBO roll unwinder, sheeter and dynamic buckle folder. Upgrades to Ibis’ standard Smart-binder system has increased the HS model’s maximum input speed to 24,000sph and output to 7,000 1-up, 10mm-thick booklets per hour or 14,000 2-up. It will run inline with presses up to 130m/min with the standard folder. With additional folders it can run at at least 200m/min. The kit, commercially launched in the UK in June, costs around £120,000 and is targeted at digital press users that need a high-speed, heavy-duty saddle-binder that can run 24/7 to make booklets and publications. “The model’s unique offering over previous models involves a new higher speed infeed, folding and sheet collecting system and enhancements to the trimmer transport system,” said managing director John Cracknell. He said it was the only system to fold sheets individually and provide integrated sheet and booklet tracking systems for true variable-data production output. The patented Individual Sheet Gluing (ISG) cold-glue binding technology replaces the need for conventional wire stitching and allows the number of pages in each booklet to be continually varied from four pages up to 10mm maximum book thickness, without stopping the sheet infeed flow from the web or sheet feeder....

A SummaCut D-series vinyl cutter will also be available for demonstration. Additionally a new photo-spectrometer section will include the Barbieri SpectroSwing and SpectroLFP, and the X-Rite i1. Around 40 different types of media will be stocked including standard papers, gloss photo, vinyl, mesh, banner, metallic and one-way vision substrates. The centre is also open to end-users and prospective customers. “Sometimes users have specific questions and they want to try, test, experiment and learn about the products. They are always welcome here,” said Verhulst. He added that the company is planning a dealer event for next year....
